This misses the point.
Users of OOo and all users of SO since more than ten years are trained to look
at the status of the "save" icon to see whether the document is modified or not.
I never met anybody who instead looked at the barely visible little star in the
status bar.

People also will be confused that the save button is enabled but when they close
the document no warning will happen (as this is what they are used to).

I'm not the one that says "never change anything" (on the contrary!), but OTOH
for a very visible change I would like to see a justification. And after some
thinking I have my doubts that the ones presented so far are good enough.

I don't believe that the necessary changes in Calc are that big. At least I
don't buy that without a proof. ;-)
