Well, this would at least prevent that users will think that we are complete
idiots because we can't manage something simple as the status of a "Save" 
button.

OTOH I still don't get why an unmodified document needed to be saved at all, so
it doesn't matter a lot whether the button is green or blue. This will need some
more work on the code that I'm not willing to invest.

Perhaps we could add a tool tip that says 

"You already saved your document, there's no reason to do it again. But in case
you want to do it anyway, just do it!". 

This will leave no uncertainties. :-)
