Secret or Private Modes. Most Warez/Sex/MP3 channels have this mode set on
them that doesnt allow people outside the channels see if you are in them
via /Whois <your nick>. Your point is not really valid.

/Whois <nick> shows idle time on most servers. this will give you a very
good idea of how (not)busy they are. Your problem solved there. If it
doesnt show that usually meands they are vusy currently or sent something
to someone recently. Play around with that and it will help you in this
area.
