Ok, chatwindow menu's are far from perfect now, so I do support Karel's
proposal to make them better, but I do not like the menu's he proposed
either. Instead of a lengthy mail with all kinds of arguments, I'd like
to
make my own proposal how I'd do it. I'll add a few remarks at the end.
Okay, here is my proposal for the menu's:

Remarks:
- Everything where the user has to pick a file, name a file, or will
see a
representation of files on disk is in the File menu.
- I used 'Save As...' and not 'Save', because the user will have to
name the
file!
- The close option is also in the File menu because every user will
look for
it at the bottom of this menu, because it is always there, in every
app, so
we won't do that differently.
- In the Edit menu is only what is there usually: Cut/Copy/Paste and the
commands for searching in the window content.
- In View there is anything about how things appear. The word 'view' is
to be
read as 'Appearance', as explained by Karel. He's right there. (The *
before
the last two lines of this menu just means they are on/off switches)
- The Actions menu contains everything that is about 'doing something
that has
some effect within the chat'
- The Contact menu contains everything that affects the other user in
the chat
in any way, but is not directly related to the chat itself. I did not
include
the 'Set alarm' because it is on the properties window, which is in the
menu
already.
- 'Webcam settings' is not in the menu. Maybe they can go into the
CL-menu,
but I think having it accessible from the preferences window is all we
need.
Okay, that is my idea about it. I hope it's helpful.
