Well said, Joe.
Not to mention the fact that a lot of the kids
don't know how to swim in the ocean and their parents have reservations about
letting them go to the beach.

-- Cost is the issue
Cost was the issue two years ago when the project was
presented, introduced, approved and built. The time to raise questions on the
expenditure was then. Now the city will gear up to open the recreation area
for the second year -- or is it the third? How many bites at the "it cost too
much" apple does Jerry's white woman get?
No, the issue today is not
cost. rather the issue is the clear disconnect and outright hostility that was
displayed by some people in the audience. Jerry's white woman said anyone can
use the beach therefore the recreation area -- which by the way is a lot more
than just "four hoses in the ground" -- isn't needed. She implies that
everyone in the city should walk to their recreation -- a distance that could
be up to one mile. I ask you, who among us is willing to walk a mile for
anything? Jerry's white woman makes no consideration for the fact that to many
in our community the cost to enter the beach is money they don't have.
