In part, I do agree, because there appears to be nothing in APs future to
promote tourism.
The current redevelopment plan is condo-centric.
I do think, however that the musical past of AP is an attractive thing, and I
don't think it's
being utilized properly. I think Scott of the Saint's Wave Gathering could be
turned into a
major event.
Asbury is known world wide as a place where great music has come from.
I used to work exclusively in the music biz. In 2000. I was in Germany at an
MTV Europe
video music awards show, and I happened to be wearing my Vaccaro Guitars tee
shirt.
A group of women noticed this and approached me, asking if I lived in Asbury,
and telling
me about a trip they were planning to come visit the place that gave us Bruce
and Bon Jovi.
It was interesting how the words Asbury Park on my shirt attracted people to me
from the
other side of the pond.
In the past, Asbury had many great musical events, such as the concerts on the
beach
which brought in 10s of thousands of people.
That being said, some big musical events would be great for Asbury, and we
wouldn't have
to build anything new to facilitate them. We already have a great beach, The
Paramount,
Convention Hall, The Stone Pony, Asbury Lanes and The Saint.
