I see all the posts about affordable housing and that is what I do for a living. I am executive director of a non-profit that provides counseling, education, assistance and referrals for people making below median income to buy houses. When we talk about affordable housing a lot of people think public housing. In truth, it encompasses much more. It includes rentals and homeownership. Did you know that median income in Monmouth county is $81,200? I bet a lot of us qualify for my programs. Almost all of Asbury Park is a Low/Moderate income census tract. That means that regardless of income there are discounted mortgages out there for homebuyers because banks (not mortgage companies, but banks) must comply with a federal law called the Community Reinvestment Act. Anyway, if anyone here is interested in more information on affordable housing or wants to refinance from an adjustable rate to a fixed rate they can contact All AHEAD, the alliance for affordable homeownership, education and development. We're a HUD certified counseling agency and we are not commissioned salespeople or representatives of any lender. We're just a non-profit committed to increasing and maintaining homeownership in Asbury Park. Our site is www.allahead.org. A quick soap box moment - we all need housing that is affordable to our income level. It creates a diverse community and healthy cities have a mixture of income levels. Just my humble opinion.
