 There is an existing Transifex project:

opinion) not as user friendly as Transifex.

 At the moment, Transifex supports a GitHub and Bitbucket integration,
eliminating the need for manual commits. This is not implemented yet
in the Audacity project, however.

 But: the Audacity Transifex project DOES have automatic updates of
source files, so you can get notified when new strings are available
for translation.

 A few of the Audacity developers is active on the Transifex project,
too!

Hi all.

Let's be crystal clear, I'm against using transifex/weblate for the Audacity French translation. Explaining my point out there.

The main point is that I've been handcrafting the French translation for a few years now, and I don't want anyone to be able to change the current translation without talking about it with me "because they just feel it's better". That'd be a great recipe for a disaster. Instead, I much prefer to get a suggestion on this translation mailing list and/or straight on my email address. Which is what have been happening several times on the last years and, so far so good, noone complains with that way of doing things.

Don't get me wrong, I'm using myself Weblate for some other projects. But not for Audacity French.

By the way, I don't know who is the person who set up the https://www.transifex.com/klyok/audacity/ repo, but I'd request him/her to remove the French component which is lagging way behind the current French translation which is officially 100% translated where this unofficial translation repo says it's 51.8%. I can imagine someone finding this "51.8%" thinking "ok, let's push it to 100%", then starting to spend hours/days/weeks to get it up to 100%, then to finally find out that the work is already done and he/she spent time for nothing... what a sadness that would be! He/she would have lost a bunch of hours duplicating a job already done, and there is high probability that he/she would leave the idea of helping out to translate Audacity in French. Help that I'd have like to have.

Another request for the person maintaining this unofficial translation repo is to change the:

"This translation project is UNOFFICIAL - submit completed translations directly to the Audacity mailing list ([email protected])! http://audacityteam.org/";

for something like:

"This translation project is UNOFFICIAL - before working on a translation here, subscribe to the Audacity translation mailing list ([email protected]), present yourself, and check with the current language translator(s) what is the status of the translation you'd like to contribute to and ask how you could help. http://audacityteam.org/";

Note that there is something I don't understand. You (Dorian) says above that it's automatically updated from the source files. So how can it displays 51.8% French translated in this case ?

Thanks.

Olivier
