"That much data"? How much data? For 5000 albums we're talking what,
50-60k records? If you're optimizing purely for speed and not resource
usage (which they can do, seeing as they're running on a closed,
dedicated box) that's trivial. Throw a gig of ram in the box (they can
afford it at the prices they charge) and cache everything except the
audio files. Forget sub-20ms, sub-5ms should be possible unless their
developers are asleep. 

Slimserver could do the same thing but people expect it to co-exist on
a low powered machine with a bunch of other apps.
