The 33 is not the most transparent pre-amp in the world..in fact it's not Quads greatest moment imho. Compared to modern pre-amps its input overload threshold is very low and will easily be driven into overload by modern equipment. This is why it sounds better when you turn the SB down and raise the vol on the 33. I'd junk the 33 and use Rothwell attenuators between the SB and the 33 = this is cheap, and will sound a lot better than going via the 33 IMHO. Try it and see. Regards, Phil
