The problem I intended to adress was that of mixing cost (value for money) with the question of wether front ends can sound relatively better/worse/different. Also there is some confusion as to wether a front end includes a dac-stage or not - said Linn and Naim have no digital only transports and only one pure dac afaik. So we're not talking about Naim and Linn as expensive digital transports here, I assume?
My experience is that transports make a difference - regardless of definition - but I do not have enough experience to in terms of cost, classify sound quality - if such classes exists at all? I do know that I have heard some rather expensive stuff sounding better than anything else I've heard.
