Now Darren you need to chill out. Remember vinyl was here first and when
properly and painstakingly set up vinyl playback can and does rival the
sound of the best digital audio front end. Understand that I'm not
trying to be a Luddite about vinyl but the simple fact remains that
aside from the surface noise and the many steps required before playing
(and these are very BIG issues, not to be dismissed) when I listen to an
LP I often wonder what ever make the music industry decide to go
digital. And yes digital audio is from a consumer perspective a great
step forward but digital audio has just about killed the music industry,
or at least vastly reduced the revenue stream from sales of recordings.
Remember no one ever went to jail or paid a fine for passing along a mix
tape to a friend.

But the real kicker is that while digital audio offers incredible
dynamic range so many recordings available today have highly compressed
dynamic range so much so that my original 1970's era Van Morrison LPs
sound much better than any of the latest and greatest Van Morrison
digital remasters! And this situation is not just limited to Van the
Man.
