PS: One point to understand is there is really no such thing has "wrong"
when it comes to what someone hears. If X sounds better than Y to you,
then it really does.

The question is, why? Is it to do purely with physical phenomena or is
there a psychological component? There is no way--none at all--to
distinguish between something you hear because of physical phenomena and
something you hear due to psychological phenomena. The only way you
could do it is indirectly, as it were, by listening blind and seeing if
and how the result changes.
