Concern 1:
I interpret a portion of this message to say that the LibreOffice folks
desire no association with the OOo name.
I have been told they are concerned about possible repercussions from
Oracle if they do not avoid any association with the OOo name. This is
not the same thing as "desire no association".
That makes sense given previous actions on the part of Oracle.
Do you have a feeling that the two products will remain sufficiently
similar that long term the documentation will apply to both?
One of my first thoughts (was to use the LO prefix because that at least
captures one product, but may also draw fire from Oracle, but that is
mere speculation).
If you or Dick or Alexandro or anyone else who does not like my proposal
can come up with a solution that does *not* involve me doing a lot of
research or getting stuck with technical issues I don't know enough to
deal with, but *does* involve having someone (preferably several people)
available who are competent to do the technical work involved in keeping
a Plone website up to date and functioning well... I would be happy to
hear your suggestion
Do you have any insight into future plans for a new name for OOoDev? My
opinion is that we should not choose a new name until after OOoDev has
chosen their name (unless we have reason that they will follow suit).
Are we able to dialog with them to see if they intend to change their
name, and, if so, are they willing to change at the same time that we do.
I have no objections to moving to OOoDev, nor do I object to a name
change (especially if this secures help from OOoDev).
My concern here is consistency. My opinion is that we will be more
successful if we are able to use the same name for common systems. If we
opt to go to ODF, then might we persuade OOoDev to also use ODF? If
OOoDev is not willing to discuss a name change on their part other than
to agree that they will likely change their name in the near future,
will they allow us to continue with the current name until they make a
decision on their new name knowing that we might be willing to use the
same naming convention?
I have an expectation that the OOoForum will not likely change their
name, but, user.services.openoffice.org may be more inclined to at least
be open to follow.
