Thanks Delfeld, I'm using vista, and maximizing a Flash Player window didn't make any difference for me :/
I will try to look into this in a little more depth, give me a chance to get acquainted with the innards of away3d. If anyone else is also interested in squishing this bug, I've created a minimal source package to demo the problem. It's simply using an FLA (CS4 FP10) with it's document class set (instead of supplying an FDT project like I did before). You can then easily migrate it to the editor of your choice.
