Also... There have been a lot of problems with 'Abort scan'. It may or may not be working correctly.
After aborting make sure there's no scanner.exe process running. If there is, kill it. If you're having problems running the initial scan, then you may as well also shut down the server and completely clear the cache. A new initial scan will be launched when you restart the server.
