Thanks to all that provided their insight. Looks like the best
advice on the tranny is : if it ain't broke (at this time) don't fix
it.

It works well when we test drove the car, and as my daughter is
buying the car on a loan from "the bank of mom and dad" and in no
financial position to repair a tranny, the lowest risk approach seems
to leave well enough alone - hopefully it will last long enough for
her to gain some financial "traction" and reserves. She's a single
mom struggling to make ends meet on a low income job and this car
seems a better long term choice at $5K, as a 77K mile 2000 year Neon
at the same price.

Plus I seem, over the years starting about 1986, to have brought my
#2 son, my wife, and now #1 daughter over to BMWs!

Converting the family, one member and one car at a time (?)
Harvey
