It is all well and good trying to compare the UK with the US and finding that the US has far more people, university training etc, but the country that did the best in Finland was.. Canada (thanks to the Finnish women making the final) with only 30 million people, pretty ropey university ultimate and bugger all funding.
On the other hand, a mid-sized city, say Calgary (population about 800,000) has 2 separate ultimate leagues, each with about 50 - 80 teams playing every week (as long as the weather allows). A large city, like Vancouver has over 250 hundred teams, playing competitive ultimate every week. Oh, yeah and practising as well. The tournament structure in the UK is more advanced than Canada, but the leagues are, well leagues behind. Just more fuel for the fire.
