My philosophy is that the more you invest in a flashlight, the more you
regret it when it goes over the side‹because it will.

I get an excessive number of cheap-ass flashlights (there are about six on
board now) and I don¹t get too attached to any of them. Those that survive
to the next season get new batteries. If you watch out during the year, you
can spot some incredibly cheap deals, with batteries included, at Wal-Mart
or Home Depot.

(They look pretty cool when they go overboard and drop from sight. Sometimes
you¹re at a dock and you can see it down there for hours.)
