I carry two I never want to use.

The first is a corded WM Million CP 12V cigarette lighter plug.

The second is a Wal-Mart Million CP 12V rechargeable that comes with a 12VDC
charger.

I have under instrument pod led cockpit and table lights so the hand held
lights can stay stowed except in an emergency and our deck light works good
for final docking.

I also carry a generation 1 night vision monocular which does very well in
partial moonlight. I schedule all after dark outings based on phase of the
moon so I can navigate without blistering my night vision with an emergency
light. That included sailing Cabo San Lucas to San Diego. We did nearly all
moonlit departures so our charted ETA to the next unfamiliar harbor was mid
day.

The final bit of night navigation gear is my GPS Chart plotter which is
interfaced to the Autohelm. I have been storing multiple safe return routes
in my navigation gear way back to the Loran C days. My definition of safe is
out of the shipping lanes along buoys that I can identify on charts to
verify my location.

Even if you not on route this GPS reads the charted depth in front of the
boat so you can alarm on a depth you're headed into instead going beep beep
bump with a depth finder alarm.

List

I am venturing out with a group for some night sailing this weekend.
Knowing that I will probably need some light to spot crab pots, light up
sails, etc. I am interested in knowing what you are using for those times
you need a hand held bright light. I have the typical flashlights. Not
really interested in spending a lot for such a device. Any information
would be appreciated.
