Being a Rookie, I looked into the possibility of a chart plotter. I have
a Loran C, as well as a hand held Garmin GPS. I did not have enough time
in the season to take any long trips, so these items were enough for
that span. After doing some digging, I've found out that using my
Panasonic Toughbook 48 and GPS module, I can turn this into a chart
plotter with full keyboard. I can buy NOAA charts for that pc for about
$20.00 U.S.
My only decisions now are where to mount it, and if it would make
sense to use a separate, repeating display permanently mounted on board
with a waterproof keyboard for way point inputs.
I'm sure I'll have pictures when I get the final design installed.
