October 03 , 2011

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------


     10/3: The AMERICAN AVOCET remains at Puddler’s Marsh. It is actually still 
present today (10/10) so I will not mention it again in this report. Also seen 
at Puddler’s were 5 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and 3 HUDSONIAN GODWITS. 
     10/6: 12 species of shorebird were found in Puddlers. They were: 
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER, AMERICAN AVOCET, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 
SOLITARY SANDPIPER, GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, 
LEAST SANDPIPER, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, and DUNLIN. also 
found were SANDHILL CRANES.
     10/7: 4 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS and an AMERICAN BITTERN were seen at 
tschache Pool. New shorebirds at Puddlers were AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER and STILT 
SANDPIPER.
     10/8: A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and a CACKLING GOOSE were seen at the 
Visitor’s Center. A RED PHALAROPE was found at the new Shorebird area. 
     10/9: The RED PHALAROPE was relocated in the same area. 1 HUDSONIAN GODWIT 
was found at Puddler’s. The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was relocated at the 
Visitor’s Center. 3 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were found at May’s Point Pool. 2 
NELSON’S SPARROWS were seen at Martens Tract.
     10/10: The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was refound in the afternoon after 
being missing in the morning. A NELSON’S SPARROW was seen at Martens Tract.


Oswego County
------------

     10/4A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was seen from Fort Ontario at Oswego.


Onondaga County
------------

     10/5: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW, a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, and  a PECTORAL 
SANDPIPER were found in the Sorrell Hill area south of Baldwinsville.
     10/6: A MERLIN was seen at Schiller Park in Syracuse.
     10/8: An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was found at the Town of Van Buren 
Transportation Dept. west of Baldwinsville.


Cayuga County
------------
     10/8: An early NORTHERN SHRIKE was found on the west side of Fair Haven 
State Park. Also found were 2 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS.
