Greetings! This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of 
November 7 , 2011

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     11/7: 6 species of Shorebirds were seen from the Visitor’s Center to 
Knox-Marsellus and Puddler’s Marsh. Highlights were LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER abd 
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER. 14 SANDHILL CRANES were spotted at Puddler’s Marsh.   
     11/8: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was spotted along Towpath Road.
     11/13: At Puddler’s Marsh a ROSS’S GOOSE, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, a 
PEREGRINE FALCON, and 14 SANDHILL CRANES were seen. At Benning Marsh DUNLIN, 
SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were seen.
     In all 8 species of shorebirds were seen at the Montezuma Complex this 
week. Species seen were DUNLIN, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, LESSER and GREATER 
YELLOWLEGS, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, and WHITE-RUMPED 
SANDPIPER.


Onondaga County
------------

     11/8: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Three Rivers WMA north of 
Baldwinsville.


Oswego County
------------

     11/11: A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen at Derby Hill.
     11/12 : A POMERINE JAEGER was seen at Derby Hill.
