Forget travel agents. The internet is killing them. If you plan out your vacation in enough time, you can find good deals. Every if you plan on travelling in two or three weeks, you can find great airline fares. If you can do it by yourself, airfare, hotel, car, etc..., it is not that bad.
I have found good luck at AAA Auto Club. Call every now and then about specials they have or will have. I got a great cruise package to the Caribbean, with airfare, and all the bells and whistles for a great price in 2000.
