I don;t use Outlook, but have a similar setup.

I set my mail client to use IMAP and then manage the emaisl form there -
moving to different folders or deleting.  This way, if I use the GMail web
interface, the messages are available to me in a smilar directory structure.
 Same goes for when I read email from iPhone.
