A wand does nothing really other than say... if you are someone like my
mom who now is the proud owner of a titanium hip, they have to wand you
and reconcile where the wand goes off with the little card with the
x-ray picture of the new joint. Other than that it would not have worked
with the terrorist who potentially could have blown up a plan on
Christmas day.

How is it an inconvenience? You already have to walk through a metal
detector, which have been in place for years. No one is bitching about
those. So instead of a metal detector, you walk through an x-ray
machine. Then you do not have to remove your belt and shoes. Just dump
the contents out of your pocket as you already do, remove watches and
such just as you already do. In other words, replace the metal detector
with the x-ray machine and everything stays the way it is except you get
to keep your shoes on. Try going to an airport that does not have a
smoking section and have to remove combat boots two or three times while
waiting for your flight. That is an inconvenience. And your idea of
getting the intelligence communities is good, but obviously is NOT being
done. Was not being done during the Bush years, and is obviously NOT
being done during Obama's hopefully very short one term presidency.

What conveniences have been taken away other than having to remove your
shoes and belt? If you are talking about the random "sir, please step
aside for further scrutiny" part of this, then yes, I agree. Stop doing
that. My step father and I were both pulled aside flying from Tennessee
to California last year because we had one way tickets to California (we
drove my mom and grandmas vehicles to Tn while my mom lived there
temporarily for an assignment). Start profiling instead. I am all for that.
