Election laws in Canada seem to be fairly reasonable regarding ID. Yes
it requires a photo id. However if the person does not have an
authorized photo id, a medicare card and hydro bill will do (Elections
Canada give about 300 examples btw).

But it gets better, if the person cannot produce the requisite items
from the second option, the person just needs to get someone else who
lives in the riding and will vouch for them.

Funny even though there is this very liberal id requirement in Canada,
the only cases of elections fraud have been committed by the
Conservative Party over the last couple of federal elections.

Funny thing is though when these options were brought up they were
shot down by republican state legislators.

Why? Is it that they're trying to stop voter fraud (the rate btw is
less than 100 cases out of millions of votes cast in 2008 -
http://www.kansascity.com/2012/08/13/3760122/voter-fraud-found-to-be-rare-survey.html),
or is it that they're attempting a barely legitimate voter suppression
of those people who are not likely to vote republican.

It basically comes down to why do Republicans hate the democratic
process so much, and America so much.
