on the stock market idea: I think I mentioned losing most of my belongings in a flood last year so I am in furniture acquisition mode also. However, if in fact the stock increases, that would help with money for furniture. It might not of course but that is a risk you take. I do think I looked into this before and some of the discount brokers have low/no minimums.
