Did you look into Flex? You get the RIA without the animation, and can have CF run the back-end. Though it's not cheap, but they have free developer and non-commercial licenses. Of course that is *another* language, but it's based on XML (exactly: MXML). > At this point, I don't see any reason to use "Flash Forms" just because they > look nicer, > which would require a user to have Flash installed, when I can make "pretty" > forms using CSS... I agree, but if you saw those Forta presentations, tabbed groups and stuff look really nice. > MX) > came out, all of a sudden all the tech talk concerned Java...I know nothing > about Java or > JavaScript...suddenly CF was fast getting out of my league. Don't get discouraged with talk of Java. It's perfectly well hidden from those who don't do a lot of advanced programming in CF. One of the stated goals for CFMX Blackstone is to make it easier than ever on the new and casual programmer. > There'll be a lot to learn to jump from CF 4.5.2 to > Blackstone...I just hope > the features (at least the ones I'd benefit from the most) are worth it. I really recommend a book like the WACK. It gives CF a nice friendly feel, all the while teasing you with the amazing tricks you can do with it. > I'd like to be able to build some web-based apps with software-like > functionality, without > having to resort to JavaScript or ActionScript...just within Cold Fusion > server and CFML capabilities... That's a tall order, what is "software-like functionality"? Round-trip server communication without page load times? Sounds like a lot of flash programming or flex. Keep your ears open when blackstone hits the streets. There will be a lot of new things that will make you (and your users) happy when you upgrade. -nathan strutz http://www.dopefly.com/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Special thanks to the CF Community Suite Gold Sponsor - CFHosting.net http://www.cfhosting.net Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:184008 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
