That's incorrect:

<cfquery datasource="myDS" name="QTest">
        SELECT *
        FROM sometable
        WHERE 1=0
</cfquery>
<cfoutput>#QTest.RecordCount#</cfoutput>

The output is 0. You can get the columnlist too.
