I have been reading this thread with some interest and would like to toss
out a couple of questions. Concerning the use of the free software if you
can not use it for development purposes then what is it for? What is the
benefit to a small company to be a partner? Other than having the company
name on a list that someone might see and a logo for the company site what
is the return on investment of the $800 it cost to be an Associate Partner?
Based on the threads I have seen about the program as a small business owner
I would wonder if my money is not better used for some other purpose as I
have not seen any positive comments about the program on this list. I can
see where there are benefits for Premier or Alliance partners but not for an
Associate.

CCing [EMAIL PROTECTED] on this reply...

IMHO - Alot of people used the partner program to get a free copy of all the
software and "try before you buy". Some partners undoubtedly use the
software for development, which I don't think is permitted in the license of
the partner software packages. Getting upset because CF Studio isn't
included in the partnership anymore is a little tricky because it really
makes me ask, why are these people upset? You don't need it to "evaluate"
it, there's a 30 day demo for that...

If you are using CF Studio for development of sites, you should own legit
full licenses of Studio. I would expect that any company who uses CF enough
to get a partnership should be using CF Studio daily already, and therefore
would own full legit licenses of the Studio product. So why would you need
it in the partner package? You already own a copy. Unless of course you
are using the free partner software illegally. No, I am not accusing anyone
on the list of anything... It's just hard for me to think of any valid
reasons you'd actually need a NFR copy of Studio as a partner...

I suppose if you were a distribution/sales partner you might need it to demo
capabilities to a client, but how often does it really happen that you sit
down in front of a computer with a potential sale (person) and do a live
demo of Studio? I'd say probably very rarely. Most distribution/sales
partners just sell the product, no demo, just "how many you want?".

Having said that, ok I'll give in that the distribution/sales partners may
need Studio on some rare occasions... But why would the rest of us need it?
Seriously, not trying to bash anyone here, I am truly curious to hear real
scenarios where a partner needed a "partner copy" of Studio?

I think many people have the belief that "if you get less stuff it must be a
bad thing". Well, I'm not sure we have EVER used our partner copy of
Studio. We have several client licenses for the product, and use those for
our development. I have no need for a copy of Studio in the partner
program.

So then it must be the other parts of the partner program that are lacking?
Are we all partners just for "all the free stuff", of do we actually expect
something more from the program? I mean lets face it, that's really why
many of us participate. Get free stuff, put it on your laptop, put it on
your home computer, put it on computers around the office... Not legal, but
we all know it happens, and not just a little, it happens ALOT... Now they
are taking away the free stuff, and it turns out there's nothing else of
interest left in the program?

Lets all be realistic and come up with reasons that we actually NEED the
"free stuff". Again, not trying to bash anyone or accuse anyone of
anything, but if all we do is whine that the free stuff is gone, I seriously
doubt it's gonna change anything.

Questions:

Why do you need the "free stuff", and why doesn't the 30 day trial software
fill this need?

What, in addition to the items listed on the partner program overview do we
need/expect?
