two words:  Radia Perlman

It's true that women are in the minority in the WAN field.  However, it
seems that most of the women in the field are far more compentent then my
fellow males (in general, on a qty basis).  The person that helped teach me
BGP and prepare for my lab exam is a nice person named Lisa who works for
Lucent.  Talk to her about being a woman in a man's field.  She's been doing
this stuff for a long long time...let me know if you'd like her e-mail
