The original Wadalab fonts The original Wadalab license is (as confirmed by the original author TANAKA Tetsuro <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) applicable world-wide. Your own work For your own work, the LPPL is sufficient. You could also switch to GPL if you like, but this is not a necessity. If you choose the latter option, then you have the popular version 2, and the latest version 3. I haven't followed the discussion (which was often ideological and mostly viewed from the Anglo-American legal system), but for Debian both are OK. You can choose to stick to one particular version of the GPL (mention that it is licensed under GPLv2 or GPLv3), or you can let the user decide which version s/he finds the best (mention that you license it under GPLv2 or higher, or GPLv3 or higher). You don't need to copy the license in your package; just mention that it is licensed under a specific license, and add a URI where to find it (preferably the "official" link, or a link that will probably survive the test of time). You can put these few lines on top of your most important files as a comment, or just add some kind of MANIFEST file that includes a list of all files that are created by you. Not every file should have such a header, like .fdx files. But I would put a comment (in Fontforge) in your .sfd file that 1) this is derived from the original Wadalab fonts, with 2) modifications by Werner's wftodm patch (GPL) and your own modifications (your license). If this proves all too much a hassle, then you could simply release it, and then it would be seen as "public domain", which is fine for Debian as well (and therefore pretty much every other distribution). 3. Concrete actions The bz2 file you provided on the CJK list, is nearly perfect! I would just add the references to the original author of Wadalab, his current website (http://www.tanaka.ecc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~ktanaka/index-j.html) and email address, propose your changes to him as well, and that should be enough for even the most die-hard fans of debian-legal. ;) And if possible, add some copyright notices in the comment boxes in Fontforge of your .sfd file, even if you don't plan to upload it.
