I agree, the force should be with me no matter which direction I go.But as you 
know, in the world of science, data is data!  Now I've got to fit the 
hypothesis to the data.  No luck so far although the suggestion that the blades

Why do you need to put the engine in reverse to open the prop?
  The blades open easier and faster when you simply rev to the point 
centrifugal action opens the blades and they bite and open fully, provided the 
speed of the boat is slower than what it would be under power.
