My 36 XL/kcb, whose rigging is similar to your 34R, has a very narrow angle 
between the mast and the forestay--too narrow to easily fit the Harken halyard 
restrainer properly.
My rigger suggested that he just mount a 'bale'(?) to the mast instead which 
took up much less space.
This has worked for years without problems.
