Hi Syd: The fastest ground speed I have seen was in late October on the flight from Truckee, CA to Jean, NV for our annual Halloween party. Traveling SE along the east side of the Sierras at 11,500 I had a ground speed of 158 mph. The odd thing was that it was a quartering wind from the west. If it had been a direct tail wind I might have really gotten down the road fast. Also it was smooth. All the best for the new year: Maynard Smith, N99843.
