Howdy, Skip.
Percy Wood here. I wish to appologize for some on the Coupers Mailing
List. They perhaps feel that all the problems of `Coupedom would go away
if you did. I am not among them, which is why I'm taking the time to
write now. I also appologize for not writting to you sooner.
As director, I also serve at the pleasure of the membership, though just
the local ones. On the other hand, I am at a large percentage of the
monthly meetings, so anyone that wanted to strangle me could do so!
We of the Oregon Ercoupe Erforce feel that the Coupe Capers should
continue to be published. We also feel that the WWWeb can co-exist with
the Ercoupe Owners Club. We grant that there is a good bit of
mis-information that appears over the Internet, but it is not "a scam"
which you characterized it as the last time we discussed it.
Your point about being libel is well taken. The difference between
the `Net and guys chatting in the back of the hanger is that communication
is written. Thus it is available for litagation - a definate hazard in
America. I don't think that anything Real Stupid would go unchallanged,
having been "flamed" for suggesting that radical maneouvers right after
lift off is not the best practice.
I am willing to help the EOC with a WWWeb page - even from 2500 miles
away. First off - some points:
 * It is a communications medium - don't loose sight of that.
 * It has different speeds for different people. Your flash may not
go well at the end of a 2400 baud modem. I'm clocking 26,400 now,
eventhough mine's 33.6k. Large graphics don't work well sometimes.
 * As such, it is not a computer thing but an art thing you are dealing
with. Keep that in mind also. Look at other pages to pick up good
   stuff.
 * Use the work of others. I would be proud if my humble page:
   http://www.hevanet.com/pwood/couphome.htm
was referenced by the Ercoupe Owners Club page. I'm sure others
   would be just as honored.
 * HTML is not that hard - I picked it up in an evening. But I do things
the hard way and am a computer professional to boot.
So - look at what's out there, use good judgement and no large pictures.
And don't take the crabby rabbits on the Coupers Mailing List too
seriously.
As for me, I'm gonna have to get the names of the attendees of the last
meeting on the page and start working up a calendar. Our big event is
the Ercoupe Day at the Museum of Flight in Seattle (May 22) and the
Ercoupe Fanciers Gathering at EAA Arlington in July. Hope to have good
attendence there and get the report back to Carolyn

Happy Easter - and enjoy Baseball Monday, Y'all
   Sincerely,
   Percy G. Wood
   Director,
   Ercoupe Owners Club.
