you miss one *important* fact here.
And you miss the whole idea which is that there are ways to contribute
to projects that may not be compatible and people should just accept
that because people have various ways to express their creativity.
Life is a forked project as soon as you have children. But are you
complain about your children because they don't do things the way you
do ?
Period to this argument.

ps: and I was not ranting about SUN. but you'd be hard pressed to tell
me the reason for SO's existence today. Income generator ? SO is the
biggest proprietary fork of OOo and nobody complains about that. So why
complain about opened forks ? The "they don't say thank you" argument
is the lamest I've ever heard and is certainly not backed up by any
official NO document.
