I submitted a first suggestion for a new main page for doc.oo.o. ...

The basic idea was to emphasize the structuring into users looking
for quick help, users wanting to browse existing docs, and
contributors.
Can't be said too strongly: this is critical to making the site
effective. Your draft brings good progress toward this goal.
However, I think this ultimately needs a complete separation of
sites, something like mozilla.com and mozilla.org. The audiences are
too different--almost anything for contributors will only distract
the users.
Oh, I wasn't even aware of that difference for Mozilla. We won't be able
to have two distinct sites, though.
As complete separation is not possible, I would suggest to use one color
for user oriented sections (Get Help and Browse Resources) and another
color for contributor oriented sections (Contribute and Latest
Unassigned Issues). Perhaps, the Unassigned Issues can even become
integrated in the Contribute section. The Favorites section could then
get another color that is not so eye-catching than the others because it
collects "only" links to other OpenOffice related sites.
