I am bias, i dont think we should worry about having it as JS. Since if the browser doesn't display the JS, the worst thing that could happen is that the user will get the options in english. This is something I am willing to sacrifice in favor of using JS.

But then again, my site is already very JS-centric so that's why I am pushing to this aim.

Hi Alexandro,

I haven't abandoned it - there's no other feedback to go on for
improvements. I'm happy to make other changes if people want them, or
to keep discussing this, but from the 2+ week silence, it seems that
the discussion is finished.

The CSS approach is at the bottom of the page, in the section titled
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Website/Localization#Customizing_the_Links

I'm not sure whether using the CSS technique of absolute positioning
to replace the header would be worth the trouble in terms of
accessibility: duplication of HTML should be avoided IMO. In the case
of the navigation, I think the disadvantage of duplicating HTML is not
as great as the advantages of being JS-independent and more search
engine friendly.

So did you abandoned yet document an approach to localized?

I thought the documentation would talk about the positioning approach.
Please let me know if if you need help on documenting the CSS way of
doing things.

Hi all,

It seems that this discussion is dead. I've created a wiki page with
instructions at:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Website/Localization

I have abandoned the approach of using JavaScript to replace
navigation, opting instead for the absolute positioning strategy I
outlined before: it is both more accessible and more search engine
friendly. The disadvantages of the JS-based approach were too big
compared with this approach.

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

Regards,
Ivan.
