What you should make sure is that http://www.openoffice.org/index.html
will never propose Bouncer links to inexistent versions (for instance,
the Italian version for Windows only comes with JRE). This means:
1) Either you activate the "smart" Java detection for en-US builds only
and extend it only to those native-lang projects who know this won't
break their downloads...
2) Or you find a way to query Bouncer about available builds in a
certain language.
Or maybe some other solution, but I can't think of any other way to
properly handle this without too much manual work.

Andrea--
Can you test out what I've got at
http://website.openoffice.org/tryouts/Kay/download/main_index.html
and let me know what happens to you, AND if you have java enabled for
your browser or not.
I tested this in Opera 9.6 (WinXP/SP3) and whereas the proposed version
seems right (well, there is no 3.0 + Java for Polish, so hard to tell),
I get this junk in Java console in Opera:
-- Opera - konsola Javy --
Java vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.
Java version: 1.6.0_07
type 'h' for help
--
java.security.PrivilegedActionException:

Hope this helps - probably Opera wants some certificates or something to
allow Java to run silently.
In Chrome, I got a message about a missing plugin and Java plugin
download failed. This seems however a browser's bug.

Marcin
