Andrea, thanks for doing this and :(
I'm assuming at this point you get something (actually with jre) when
you use the site now because that is the default.
I actually find it odd that the default for some languages (and yes,
there ARE a few I'm discovering using the bouncer form) would be to
provide the version packaged with jre but not without.
Well, again thank you for doing this and sending this very complete
information. Maybe I can augment what I'm trying to do by testing the
generated URL first.
OK, so maybe we won't be doing this just yet.
I don't have an explanation for your Linux testing as yet. But well, at
least you didn't err out. Could be LiveConnect and other variations
don't work with 1.7.

Can you test out what I've got at

and let me know what happens to you, AND if you have java enabled for
your browser or not.
I asked to other people, all using Italian locale. Here are the results
for various combinations. Still not good, unfortunately: something went
wrong in all cases.
A) Windows, Firefox 3, Java Version 6 Update 7:
Proposed download was the inexistent
http://openoffice.bouncer.osuosl.org/?product=OpenOffice.org&os=win&lang=it&version=3.0.0
B) Windows, IE7, Java Version 6 Update 7:
Proposed download was the inexistent
http://openoffice.bouncer.osuosl.org/?product=OpenOffice.org&os=win&lang=it&version=3.0.0
C) Linux, Firefox 2 or 3, Java 1.7.0:
Proposed download was (this is correct):
http://openoffice.bouncer.osuosl.org/?product=OpenOffice.org&os=linuxintelwjre&lang=it&version=3.0.0
but the warning "Your download includes a Java JRE because an
appropriate JVM could not be detected on your system" appeared.
The proposal in cases A and B is not acceptable for what I have already
written in this thread.
We verified Java versions in all cases through
http://java.com/it/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1
In case C, this reported that Java was already at the latest version.
Testers on Windows reported that the page loaded a Java applet, with the
annoying appearance of the Java icon in the system tray.
If what I'm looking at is correct, the home page DL page only generates
"bouncer" links to the bouncer site for English lang detection.
Hmmm. For what I have always seen (by looking at generated links only)
the home page generates Bouncer links for Italian versions too.

Andrea Pescetti.
