What you should make sure is that http://www.openoffice.org/index.html
will never propose Bouncer links to inexistent versions (for instance,
the Italian version for Windows only comes with JRE). This means:
1) Either you activate the "smart" Java detection for en-US builds
only
and extend it only to those native-lang projects who know this
won't
break their downloads...
2) Or you find a way to query Bouncer about available builds in a
certain language.
Or maybe some other solution, but I can't think of any other way to
properly handle this without too much manual work.

Andrea--
Can you test out what I've got at
http://website.openoffice.org/tryouts/Kay/download/main_index.html
and let me know what happens to you, AND if you have java enabled
for your browser or not.
It propose OOo 3.0 FR for Linux : ok
- with JRE : Ko, I have Java enabled
Well, this is probably one of those "esoteric" java installs that we
came across in the past. So, bottom line, at least this will not hurt
you by supplying the JRE.
My java install is standard installation by Ubuntu and OOo find it
without difficulty. ;-)
- RPM : Ko, my distribution is Ubuntu.
OK
Maybe you could send me the actual URL where you ended up when you get
a moment, just so I can verify something. Thanks.
http://openoffice.bouncer.osuosl.org/?product=OpenOffice.org&os=linuxintelwjre&lang=fr&version=3.0.0
NB : There is no linux/DEB version with JRE. Perhaps the problem is there.
