Craig, > They will comply with GPL and source will therefore be made available.
Yep... we have always complied with the GPL (and have been very strong in that position, going perhaps a bit farther than we needed to) and always will. > What kernel or dist that source is compiled against... Or any other > unknown, will be known when it is released... Right? Correct - have we *ever* announced our release plans ahead of time? :-) The reality is that given that the developer release now comes out of the community, our plans for our commercial products don't really matter to this forum. What matters is what all of you want to do for a roadmap and where you want to go with it. The other reality is that we are not going to make any bold changes to our base anytime soon. We have an existing product that works incredibly well and is used as the base for a number of other commercial products. Sure, the base will continue to evolve and we will certainly be monitoring what the community does with the SME Server codebase, but we ourselves are not planning any dramatic changes at this time. Beyond that, I'll return to the silence about plans that longtime list members are used to. > Fear of the unknown can, <b><u>"if we let it"</b></u>, cause much undue > stress... One of those 'human' traits we all inherit, I believe. Exactly.
