Hi Jean-Michel Philippe

in round 1 I had a much lower ambition.

Thinking more about getting upstream merged into Doudoulinux on Transifex
(manuel if necessary; but needs some right to the other languages to do that).
And then again manuel move the work done there to upstream for specifik
languages.

I can see that German has startet (but German is complete, in the new version
upstream). The same for Russian.
Estonian could be moved upstream (we are in search for a translator in that
language). Can you give me acces to all languages, or should I apply for all
relevant languages? (if that is okay).

Another issue is that the Transifex only covers the program itself. But stamps
and the teacher tools is also translated to a lot of languages.

bye
Joe

 Hello Joe,

 You're right, this is a
topic that gets regularly discussed. A year ago, Osma
started a thread [1] about sync'ing  with upstream,
with follow-ups in February [2] then May [3]. I think we
should really take the necessary time to work at least on
 these points:

 1. Manage DDL
to be able to access Transifex in order to translate from
within the running live environment, with a new translate
button in the menu, that would open the web brower on
Transifex :). As Transifex is using more and more
Javascript, we might have some troubles though, with the old
version of Epiphany in DDL 2.1. Updating to Debian
Wheezy/Jessie would solve this kind of issue anyway.

 2. Write/fix scripts that can
download PO files automatically from upstream projects then
merge them into our Transifex project. I wrote such script
years ago but I think it wasn't working as good as
expected [4]. Trials needed! That said, as I should have
written in one of the previously highlighted threads,
ideally it would be better for everyone to have a single
translation platform for upstream and downstream (distros).
This would also allow upstream projects to share
 translations between them.

 3. Write scripts that update a running DDL
live, from Transifex. This is not that complicated because
the work is already done, for the purpose of automatically
fetching all the Transifex translations [5] and porting them
to our SVN repository, in order to build updated language
packages [6]. The work would mainly consist in copying the
required files into the live environment and changing the
target of the scripts (and probably modularizing them and/or
 write new ones).

 If you
feel like helping merging from upstream, I suggest you have
a look at the existing script [4] and try to make it work at
least for tuxpaint. Maybe Osma can work with you if he's
still interested in helping translators (and I can give
additional explanations whenever needed of course). You
would need to get the "lang/" SVN tree:

 $ svn checkout http://svn.gna.org/svn/doudoulinux/lang/trunk/
 lang

 then create a file
"fetch-url" [7] for tuxpaint, that tells from
where to download upstream PO files (raw file access
required). You can use the script
"translation-report" [8] to get a visual status of
translation scores for a given resource and check upstream
 sync really improved things.

 Cheers,
 JM.
