I can see your point, and I generally stay away from "feature-ism" mods, but I'm not opposed to technically sound mods that address design deficiencies. Arguably that audio output stage and low voltage power supply were not state-of-the-art when the radio was manufactured, nor was the product detector and that mixer stage that picks up noise on AM, but we can assume that Drake was designing to a price point. Sherwood mods are only expensive when purchased from Sherwood, it's easy enough to roll your own for most of them if you have the skills. I don't care for most of the modern radios out there at all, and can't justify the expense - especially when I can spend a sawbuck or two now and then on some parts and make what I have the equal of anything that's out there in performance or listenablility.
