Type 1 is the original battery that came with Duo 210 and 230. These battery
do not mention Type 1 on the case anywhere. It holds very limited charge and
won't last long on newer Duo (especially the 280's and 2300c) Type 2 came out
later and held more charge and would laster longer on the 210 and 230 plus it
was designed for the 250 and 270c. Type 3 is the last one Apple made and
holds the longest charge of all 3 and will work in any Duos.

I don't know much about the VST brand but I heard it's even better.

Apple brand charger should work with all batteries. I do know there are 2
different models of the charger, with the older one not able to charge Type 3
battery at all. Newer version can use Type 3 battery but it may need a
firmware upgrade. If you plan to use Type 3, make sure you have the battery
charger model M1812.

There are some 3rd party charger and even battery conditioner that completely
discharges the battery before recharging it. They are a bit harder to find.

> Where is this info? Is there a Duo Battery Primer out there?

I can get most of the information from Apple site. I don't know if there are
better source of this.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. With Duo, you need a dock of some kind to get
anywhere beyond simple typing and printing. No dock, no floppy drive, no
external monitor, no etc.
