Newer is very good about swapping out the boards, just call them and tell them that your 2400 works perfectly now that you've replace the dead upgrade with your original daughterboard. They'll give you an RMA # and you send it to them. They'll send you a replacement in 7 - 10 days.

I'm on my third now and I've resigned myself to swapping this out until the original warrenty expires. What I've noticed with the 3rd replacement is that it's a refurbished card instead of a new one so I guess they're running low.
When the second one burned out, I took a close look at the card and just below the PPC chip are two square transistor thingies with a blueish heat mark between them. The square transistor thingies are smaller than the ones in the same place on Apple's daughterboard so in my infinite ignorance I'm guessing that Newer has a design flaw on their hands where they've built the board with components that can't handle the heat.

I've considered just selling the upgrade on eBay cause the 10-20% increase in speed just isn't worth the hassel, but then I don't want to stick somebody with something that'll fail in two months.

This time I'm going to place some folded foil to make sure the G3 chip is in good contact with the case heat sink. Anyone have any other suggestions to keep the board running cooler? ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
