I have had an upgraded 2400c (G3 240/512k) for almost
a year. I have used it a lot. Still running 8.6.
It runs hot. It came with a wetsuit which is not a
good idea. On warm days in the office if it is on for
extended periods it will shut down--pretty clearly
built in thermal protection. After a little cool down
time it has always started right back up. This hasn't
happened very often.
I have learned to be careful about the heat. Having it
on a heavy table, putting it to sleep when I'm away
from the maching (even for a few minutes), and being
cognizant of how warm the ambient environment is have
eliminated any problem with overheating.
Other than taking these precautions, which have become
almost instinctive and have hardly affected the
utility of the machine, my upgraded machine has been
bulletproof. Still, I'm glad I bought Applecare.
