Batteries Get 2 if you can afford it! The batteries wear out and after
awhile recondition won't do any good. The list can help point you in the
right direction on getting a good deal.
It's nice to have a spare on the road. (I hope your getting a power plug
with it) Do you mean AIM but not AOL? Connection can be done through your
ISP if they have local numbers in whatever area you happen to be in. If not
and you just want to connect to get online to use the MAC version of AIM,
ICQ,and IRCLe which you can download. A free internet connection would be
worth looking into. And in your case you could ask someone when you get to
your destination to look online for you to find a free ISP. I think they
have software you need to download which puts you in a tight spot since you
have no CD, Floppy or Dock. With luck the computer may already be set up to
connect to the web (Meaning it may have AOL or some other program on it,
which for you would make it easy by asking a friend to let you use there
account or have them sign on for you to download what ever programs you may
need, LET US HOPE!) Just find one that has local access number in the area
you are traveling to and add that to your dial up. If your planning on
using AOL it's so easy to get new local numbers anywhere you travel.
Version 3.0 works really good on a 280c although it does not have as many
features as the 4.0 version which will also run but slower, but it has aim
and a pretty good browser with lower memory use.
You do not need a browser if you are just using AIM for chatting, if you
plan on surfing the web then you need one. Best choice would be 4.8 Stand
alone version of Netscape, (my choice but other's like different browsers)
it has no composer, mail or the rest of the junk. It does not include aim
but that's downloadable. If you want mail through your ISP then try 4.0 -
4.6 versions of Communicator they include mail ,composer and Aim.
You can also use a friends MAC and network them to get the software you
need. Mac's are everywhere. There are alot of people on the list and
perhaps someone lives in the area your going to (and isn't a pervert LOL)
that could help you out or point you in the right direction.
If your looking for and ISP Earthlink works great with Mac's. I use
Earthlink, with AOL on a BYOSP for the Mac's via modem (remote) and DSL
networked, MSN (remote)and Pacific Bell for Modem and networked DLS for the
PC's.

And It's ok to have PC's...! I have four Mac's and Five PC's at home.

I'm not sure if the system software is setup the same as it came new..but if
it is..how would I connect to the net and what would I use to browse? or do
I have to have a browser? my brother used to use Netscape..but now he cant
find his computer and I'm leaving for kansas city, mo (from seattle)
tomorrow morning so it's too late to get any other software on it...
All I planned using on it in the near future is AIM and IRCle to stay in
touch with friends at home..., and obviously I'd download those programs
using whatever browser is there..

so what can I do?

also, my battery only seems to charge up enough to get 1:05 to 1:10 of
battery life
I've tried reconditioning the battery and charging it from there
is that normal? anything I can do to fix it? or do I need a new battery?

thanks
